Licensees located in and around Victoria's universities and colleges should be thinking about Orientation Week (O-Week) and how they will manage the potential of intoxicated and underage patrons.
This year O-Week will be held at most universities from mid-February to March. If you are planning to hold O-Week events, remember your responsibilities to ensure everyone enjoys the celebrations safely. Plan ahead, discuss your expectations with your staff, check ID and ensure you have the appropriate number of security for events.
New resources are now available to assist licensees and their staff.
Use the Licensees’ Action Plan (PDF, 224 KB) to get ready and take action to minimise harm.
You can also take the Minors' quiz or listen to the minors’ audio resource to refresh you and your staff’s knowledge regarding the laws around minors in licensed venues.
Visit the New Licensees page to access key information about your responsibilities.
We also encourage you to read the new Safe functions guidelines (PDF, 515KB) which include a list of best practice measures designed to minimise harm and reduce risk to guests, staff and the public.
The VCGLR Education team recently visited licensees in and around the major universities in Melbourne and regional Victoria to provide more information about licensee responsibilities and proactive measures to consider introducing at planned events.
