Temporary or Major Event requirements

We process and determine temporary limited and major event licences for Melbourne and Victorian events. These include Good Food and Wine, Good Beer Week, The Royal Melbourne Show and Spring Racing Carnival.

Event organisers and managers can coordinate with a Licensing Officer who will provide direction on application requirements, content and approval timelines.

We recommend event organisers contact us when planning an event, and before submitting liquor licence applications. To contact the major events licensing team please submit an enquiry using the contact us form.

Event organisers should allow a minimum of three months for the VCGLR to review and process these applications. Timeframes specific to the event can be discussed with the Licensing Officer managing the process.

Streamlining application process

The VCGLR prefers event organisers discuss their event requirements directly with a Licensing Officer. During these discussions, the event organiser and Licensing Officer will determine timeframes for submission, processing and return to the event organiser.

Many event organisers will submit applications in bulk on behalf of their event participants.

This process:

• streamlines the application process
• ensures consistency in licence conditions
• assists working with a Licensing Officer giving assurance and confidence to the event organiser
• helps with timeframes.

Event information

Provide the following event information:

• event date and timing, including if event is consecutive days
• location
• areas to be licensed
• number of stallholders / participants
• number of attendees.
